The king of the soul weekenders? It’s been going since 1979, supported by the original south east soul boys and girls, and continues to draw pilgrims from all over the country – making a special journey to worship at the alter of jazz funk, soul, rare groove, disco, house, funk and everything wriggling in between.
It’s got the positive party atmosphere, the people (humour and saucy cheek come as standard), the grinningly grizzled DJs, and the golden sands of Great Yarmouth where the breeze-blown sun always shines on the righteous.
It’s the unofficial dance olympics but don’t worry if you’re more a steady Eddie than a leaping Linford – just close your eyes and enjoy the sounds. By the time you’ve gone from 1pm until 4am sustained only by wine spritzers and shellfish you’ll have found groove gears you never knew you had.
I’m limbering up for a fourth visit next year and must get round to booking it because an event pass is as valued as a Willy Wonka golden ticket.
